Some background information
First things first, let’s put the record straight regarding a common misconception: acetate (cellulose acetate, to be exact) is not plastic. It’s much stronger, lighter, more flexible – and it’s plant-based! Made from renewable resources such as cotton and tree pulp, its cost to the environment is significantly lesser than that of plastic.
Invented in the late 1800s, cellulose acetate has had a surprising variety of uses, including photographic film, magnetic recording tape, the original Lego bricks, and of course, the overhead projector transparencies of our school days.
